In its most recent iteration, Cultured Like Dahi is where I share all things food, especially recipes and menus built on the homemade food made by me (*and my husband). I’m an Indian-American vegetarian which anchors my food universe but I love eating and cooking food from around the world.
My goal is to bring flavorful, healthy, affordable and simple, responsibly produced food to the table every day of the year. How this is realized and what is enough depends on the circumstances of every meal. There is regularly replenished frozen ravioli in my fridge and a Doordash account on my phone.
It is important to me to recognize the origins of the dishes. With that in mind, I’ll try to attribute recipes/dishes where I can, especially when they come from historically marginalized communities. This is easier to do when I’m cooking from a recipe versus from memory. Furthermore, it’s a fuzzy line so if you feel I’ve missed an attribution that I should have given, please let me know.
* Note: While I’m the writer & photographer in this blog, I’m not the only cook in the family. My husband and I frequently tag-team in the kitchen and consequently, when I write, you’ll often hear me switch between “I” and “We” to reflect this partnership.
About Me
I live in sunny Oakland with my husband and my toddler. Outside of this blog, I am a full time technology product manager. My mother and mother-in-law are two of the best cooks I know although my husband and I are still working to download all their knowledge.
I’m incredibly passionate about tackling climate change which intersects with my passion for food given that 24% of carbon emissions come from food, agriculture & land use (Source: Project Drawdown) and so many of the solutions to tackle climate change sit in this area as well.
